Referees

Statewide Referee Payment Panel – Juniors

A review was conducted in Feb 2023 with the aim to align all pay rates for TJJJL Competitions, State Championships, and Junior Tournaments, such that the payment reflected the level of referee at those events, and to further support the referee development pathway.

Fundamental changes from Feb 2023:

  • Flat rate for each referee, for the competition they are refereeing, rather than a sliding scale.

  • Regional Schools Tournaments, Launceston Classic, School State Championships all have a panel applied to them, at rates slightly lower than 2023 TJJJL rates.

  • TJJJL Competition rates have been increased from 2022 payment rates, across the state

  • Tri Series rates have increased from 2022 payment rates, now representing a higher pathway step for aspiring referees.

  • State Championships rates have increased from 2022 payment rates, now representing the highest level of payment, for the highest level of competition.

Referee and Official Education

Referees & Technical Officials are a crucial part of the sport & becoming a referee, score table official or a statistician is a great way to learn more about the game.

With the high amount of competitions being held throughout our State, whether at your local association or representative basketball, there are always opportunities available if you’re looking to become a referee, score table official or statistician.

  • If your interest lies in becoming a Technical official, courses are available throughout the year around your local associations.
  • If you are interested in becoming a referee, firstly you would need to attend a Community (level 0) course through your local association and once completed you can then start to referee in your domestic competitions.
  • From there your referee pathway starts. You may want to referee Junior representative basketball (TJJJL Nth & South, BTAS State Championships) and even aim for NBL1.
  • From there you may even join the WNBL & NBL panels.

BTAS will regularly hold courses in conjunction with the Local Associations throughout the year so keep an eye out on our site and social media for upcoming courses & clinics.

For Associations & Schools that would like to discuss development & education, please contact us via email, enquiry@basketballtas.com.au (North) or marnie.stephenson@basketballtas.com.au (South)
