Basketball Tasmania is calling for women and girls across the state to take part in the Play Our Way Survey. The survey captures lived experiences and reflections on inclusion, access and equity in basketball.
About the Grant
In late 2024, Basketball Tasmania was selected to receive funding through the Australian Government’s Play Our Way Program – a $200 million national initiative and one of the country’s most significant investments in women’s sport.
The program is designed to address the barriers women and girls face in sport and physical activity and promote equitable opportunities at every level. This funding will enable Basketball Tasmania to deliver initiatives that increase access, visibility and participation opportunities for women and girls across playing, coaching and refereeing.
Take the Survey: Help Shape What Comes Next
The Play Our Way survey is the first major milestone in the rollout of the program. Basketball Tasmania invites all women and girls involved in basketball – players, coaches, referees, volunteers, parents, supporters – to share their experiences and help identify where change is still needed.
Survey results will inform the design of targeted programs and initiatives aimed at creating a safer, more inclusive and empowering basketball experience for women and girls in Tasmania.
“We want to get this right — and that starts by listening,” Basketball Tasmania CEO Ben Smith said. “This survey is an honest check-in on how the game is actually showing up for women and girls — from the change room to the court, to coaching, refereeing and leadership roles.”
The survey takes just five minutes to complete and is open until Saturday, May 31 2025. All responses are anonymous.

Want to get more involved?
This is just the beginning.
In the months ahead, Basketball Tasmania will launch a range of opportunities to get involved in shaping the next phase of this project — from contributing ideas and insights to taking on leadership roles in local clubs, schools, and communities.
“We need the whole basketball community behind this – your voices, your experiences, your energy,” Female Participation Project Manager Lara Scholz said. “Whatever your role in the game — on the court, in the stands, or behind the scenes — we want you to be involved in shaping and leading this crucial work.”
If you’d like to stay connected, get involved, or help drive change in your club, school or community, please let us know your interest.
Let’s build a stronger game – together. For her. For everyone.
