The 2026 January Development Tours saw 14 Tasmanian teams travel to the mainland to compete in the Country Cup and Southern Cross Challenge.
These tournaments sit at the top end of junior development opportunities in Australia and form an important part of the state’s development pathway, giving athletes the opportunity to compete and gain experience against strong interstate opposition.
Although the tours are structured with a focus on development rather than results, Tasmanian teams recorded their strongest collective performance to date.
Five of the six age groups featured a Tasmanian Team inside the top four, highlighting steady improvement across multiple age levels.
The combination of competitive outcomes and tournament exposure is viewed as a positive indicator for the ongoing progression of players within the Tasmanian basketball pathway.
