Basketball Australia’s Integrity Unit, with support from Basketball Tasmania, has imposed a sanction on a Tasmanian basketball coach for a breach of Basketball Australia’s Gambling and Match-Fixing Policy.
In March, the coach was formally notified of an investigation into potential breaches before an interview determined that bets placed via his wagering account were in breach of the policy.
As a result, the coach has received a 26-week suspension from coaching basketball in Australia. They have accepted the sanction.
The sanction imposed is consistent with those issued to other coaches and players nationally for similar breaches.
Basketball Tasmania and Basketball Australia have provided and will continue to provide the coach with access to support throughout this period.
There is no suggestion or evidence that the outcomes of any games were influenced or compromised.
The individual remains a valued coach and respected member of the Tasmanian basketball community.
Basketball Tasmania will be making no further comment on this matter.
