In 2025, the ‘Tri-Series Cup’ will be introduced. One winning team from each age group and gender will be crowned the Tri-Series Cup winners, with the athletes and staff receiving a medal, team photo and recognition on social media in the weeks following Tri-Series Round 3.
The idea behind the Tri-Series Cup is to encourage a good balance of focusing on the processes, as well as the outcome and team performance. While the Cup will reward things such as good sportsmanship, there is a lot more to it than that. We want competitive games at Tri-Series and want to encourage the athletes to “win” each possession, but too often we get caught up on the outcome and don’t focus enough on trying to create the right environment that is conducive to development. The Tri-Series Cup enhances the competitive spirit, but ensures we maintain a focus on creating the right type of environment that is conducive to development.
So, what does this environment look like?
- It is a safe place for kids, that encourages retention because it is fun, kids get on the court, improve their skills, make new friends and don’t feel pressure to perform.
- It is a place where kids have ownership over their experience. They are the ones making the decisions, it is not the adults who make the decisions for them.
- It focuses on our values/behaviours before basketball. Our FDP/SDP values are selfless, resilient, hungry, joyful and desperality.
- It places a focus on the process and controlling the controllable areas (i.e., energy, effort, moving onto the next play – particularly after mistakes).
- It is a place where everyone is striving to be the best version of themselves – learning, improving and giving their best effort.
The cup will be awarded to one team in each division, who has the highest possible score out of 100. The score will be determined by the following metrics:
